Your inventory reflects your physical storage. If items are hard to find in real life, they’ll be hard to manage digitally as well. A clear, consistent location structure is one of the most valuable things you can establish before you start entering items in StageStock.
Get your storage in basic order first
You don’t need a perfect storage room to get started — but a rough sort helps. Group similar items together, remove anything clearly unusable, and give frequently used items a consistent home. That foundation makes everything else easier.
Be specific with your location names
Decide how your physical spaces will be identified before you start adding location data to records. A specific location like:
Prop Storage → Aisle B → Unit 3 → Shelf 2
is far more useful to a student worker on their first day than simply:
Prop Storage Room
The more specific and consistent your location structure, the easier it is for anyone on your team to find items and return them correctly — without needing to ask someone else.
Set it up once, benefit every day
Clear location records make it easier to pull items under deadline, train new staff and student workers, and keep the inventory accurate over time. It’s one of those things that’s much easier to get right from the start than to fix later.
